The different types of networks

We distinguish different types of networks (private) according to their size (in terms of number of terminals), speed of data transfer as well as their extension. Private networks are networks that belong to the same organization. They usually have three categories of networks:

• LAN (Local area network)
• MAN (Metropolitan Area Network)
• WAN (Wide area network)

There are two other types of networks: TAN (Tyni Area Network) are identical to the LAN but less extensive (2 to 3 terminals) and CAN (Campus Area Network) are identical to the MAN (with a maximum bandwidth between all LAN network ). (more...)
