Think about things you do automatically
Next time you find yourself doing one of those things you do automatically, focus in on your thoughts and actions. Mentally verbalize the steps; say them to yourself.
This exercise works well with repetitive tasks like brushing your teeth, tying your shoes, climbing stairs, or making your bed. All are tasks you have performed so many times you perform them without thinking. They are automated.
While brushing your teeth, verbalize reaching for your tooth brush and pulling it out of its holder. Continue the dialogue picking up the tooth paste and unscrewing the cap. Do the same for the routine you go through to ensure all your teeth have been brushed. (more...)
